"Europa without borders! - with Kerisek"
Erasmus+ VET mobility project
(01.06.2017. – 31.05.2019.)
Since 2004, the The Zwack József Trade and Catering Vocational-grammar and Vocational-secondary School of Békéscsaba Center of Vocational Training has been actively involved in international projects. We have been participating in ERASMUS + and Határtalanul! projects for years which helped to build a reliable, well-functioning relationship with several partners. In our tender between 2017 and 2019, those partners appear with whom we have already implemented several successful ERASMUS + projects. The success of our work is also due to the fact that in the recent past more and more of our colleagues have joined the initial 2-3-person team to implement these international collaborations. Along with the growing support of the teachers, more and more students are actively interested in advertised mobility.
Our goal is to provide our students with a broad field of vision for the professions we teach. For the practice-oriented, marketable trainings these more and more frequently realised projects – mainly to EU countries – provide an excellent opportunity in Hungary, which encourage our institution to actively participate in these international projects, so we can continue the successful mobilities in the current ERASMUS + program, as well. With the help of the tender sources we can provide our students and colleagues with foreign practical opportunities and professional trainings in the fields of trade, hospitality and tourism. Our international contacts allow both our students and our teachers to compare foreign and domestic knowledge, adapt the experience they have acquired, and fill the curriculum with new professional content.
Number and background of participants:
1.) In case of students:
In the period between 2017 and 2019, 10 cooks, 6 waiters, 13 catering manager – caterer students, 2 catering vendors, 6 pastry chefs and 3 baker students and from the field of tourism organizing and selling 5 students participated in the project. In the case of catering managers all the 13 students chose the waiter profession as a traineeship, from the 2 catering vendors one pupil chose waiter and one chose cook profession during the mobility. From the trade-marketing, business administration group, 7 shop assistants and 4 merchants were involved.
A total of 19 disadvantaged students benefited from the 2017-2019 project, of which 7 were from disadvantaged settlements. Nearly half of the mobility participants are minors, a total of 27 students.
2.) In case of teachers / trainers:
In teacher / trainer mobility, 17 people participated from the field of trade and hospitality -tourism. We are delighted by the fact that the foreign study tours and professional trainings have improved their competencies, they methodologically renewed, thus improving the quality and efficiency of their work. New experiences and lessons learned are being incorporated into the subject they teach, for example, after mobility, our cook instructors have introduced that each school year they presents the typical food of Mediterranean partner countries to our students for a week, thus enhancing the curriculum.
The successful implementation of the project was carried out with the help of 12 main tutors. Their presence is necessary because at least one person minor or disadvantaged student is present in almost all groups of students participating in mobility. In our current project, there were 19 disadvantaged and 27 minor undergraduates.
Implemented activities and achievements:
Within the framework of the project, we are trying to involve more and more students and colleagues in foreign mobility, thus providing opportunities for further professional development. To this end, we advertise the mobility in all potential forums for our students and staff. In the tender period from 2017 to 2019, 56 students spent one month of internship abroad in 7 different countries. The distribution of the participating students was as follows: 71% in the hospitality industry, 20% in trade and the rest in the tourism sector, characterized by different family backgrounds, preparedness, motivation and learning needs. We tried to minimize these differences during the psychological, cultural, professional and professional language preparatory lessons before the trips, and we tried to strengthen group cohesion. All of this has been successfully completed based on feedback from participants.
Békés county is a particularly underdeveloped area based on social situation so we consider it our mission to attract as many disadvantaged students as possible to participate in our mobility and to have the opportunity to take part in foreign internships. During the tender period, 19 disadvantaged and 27 underage students were sent to our foreign partners.
In order to increase the quality of our training, we also involved new partner organizations in addition to the existing hosting institutions. Our goal is to expand, enrich our relationship system and provide new opportunities for our teachers and students. This is the case with the Lobogó Panzió in Homorod, Romania, or Mobilityfriends in Barcelos, Portugal. Both were of great interest at the start of the project. All of this encourages us to engage new partners in future mobility, thus increasing the number of potential internship opportunities.
Through ERASMUS + Mobility, we strive to provide our students and teachers with the widest possible "good practice", taking into account the profile of our school, thereby supporting the system of knowledge, learning and teaching, in accordance with ECVET principles, for both in the field of trade hospitality and tourism.
